Job Description

Purpose:
The Trades Worker (Journeyman) provides maintenance and repair of buildings, electrical and mechanical equipment for the organization and reports directly to the Division Chief of Logistics. This position is classified as non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act.
Summary Description:
The Trades Worker (Journeyman) is appointed by the Fire Chief and all benefits/policies will be in accordance with the Non-Bargaining Employee Handbook. Under general direction of the Division Chief of Logistics, this position is responsible for performing general maintenance tasks related to effective and efficient departmental operations. Work requires the application of independent judgment and sound decision-making ability. The employee must be able to interact well with the public, participating government agencies, other personnel, and must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal forms.
Essential Duties & Tasks:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily. Examples of tasks performed include, but not limited to the following:
District Operations:
Ensures safe operations and healthy organization. Serves the public and co-workers and responds to request. Performs in specialized tasks in the construction, renovation, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment, apparatus and facilities to include, but not limited to the following: sprinkling systems, general carpentry work; general plumbing work, tile work, plastering, cement, masonry, block work, renovation and replacement of partitions and flooring. Performs general maintenance and assists in specialized repair of the following: roofing, air conditioning and heating equipment. Coordinates work activities of the department with other department programs and projects. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Represent District with
External Entities:
Promotes positive public relations. Interacts / coordinates with all required vendors for the benefits of the District.
Report To Emergencies As Needed:
Ensures readiness to report to work during and after hours. Able to operate staff vehicle.
Qualifications & Requirements:
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required for this position. The qualifications and requirements for the position of Trades Worker (Journeyman) are specified by the Fire Chief and are subject to refinement from time to time by the Board.
Minimum Experience/Education Required:
Diploma from an accredited high school or trade school or an acceptable equivalency diploma. Minimum five years' experience and knowledge in building maintenance and repair. Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and bulletins. Demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups. Flexibility to work outside of normal operating hours when requested. Possess knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in the building, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical crafts. Possess knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades. Ability to work from blueprints, rough sketches and oral and written instructions. Possess skills in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trades to which assigned. Valid Florida Class B Commercial (with airbrakes endorsement) Driver License. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications)
Preferred Experience/Education:
Bilingual-speaking.
Physical Requirements:
This individual in this position must be sufficiently fit to safely perform the occasional emergency job duties that are associated with the position. Specific requirements include the physical/mental ability to work in stressful situations. Vision correctable to 20/20. Hearing correctable to 15/15. Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions. Ability to drive Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District vehicles and emergency apparatus.
Work Environment:
The individual regularly works in a number of differing environments in order to perform required duties and responsibilities. During these times, they may be exposed to hazardous environmental conditions such as heat, smoke, and toxic gases.

$27.46 - $29.64 per hour
