Work involves carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and related trades. Operates a variety of tools and equipment to complete assignments safely and efficiently. Provides immediate supervision and guidance to assigned staff, contractors, volunteers, and/or part-time staff. Work is performed under the general direction of the Facilities Manager and may include assisting other City Departments or divisions as needed to support organizational priorities and the City's strategic goals of operational excellence, safety, and quality service delivery. Essential Job Functions This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Performs construction, maintenance, and repair of City facilities, including plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, and roofing work. Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation and sewer systems, valves, faucets, sinks, toilets, urinals, and other plumbing fixtures. Maintains and repairs pool equipment, including pumps, filters, and chlorinators; performs emergency repairs as required. Performs facility maintenance tasks including painting, pressure washing, cleaning, and structural repairs. Participates in the repair or replacement of roofs and related components. Performs preventive maintenance on tools, vehicles, and equipment. Repairs playground structures, benches, fencing, and park equipment. Performs general grounds maintenance such as planting, sodding, mowing, trimming, and debris removal. Repairs potholes, dips, pavers, and walking paths; performs concrete and asphalt patching. Lays brick, stone, and concrete blocks; applies mortar; finishes concrete; and performs tile work and other masonry tasks. Reads maps, measures distances, and interprets blueprints or sketches related to assigned work. Operates motorized vehicles and a wide variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Prepares and maintains work records, reports, and readings as required. Ensures adherence to City and Departmental safety practices, policies, and procedures in all work activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, and techniques used in facilities maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and roofing trades. Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and maintenance practices. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in facilities and park maintenance work. Skill in operating power tools, equipment, and vehicles required for various trades. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, sketches, and technical instructions. Ability to prioritize work, follow instructions, and complete assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to supervise and train assigned personnel, contractors, and volunteers effectively. Ability to communicate clearly and courteously, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Graduation from high school; with three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities or building maintenance, including work in at least one of the skilled trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or masonry). One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience preferred. Completion of a formal apprenticeship program in a skilled trade preferred. Electrical or other trade certifications desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record throughout employment. The employee occasionally works in high places, precarious places and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
