Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting in the construction, maintenance, repair and operations of City stormwater infrastructure; in addition to other assigned Public Works stormwater related functions as needed. All positions in this class are expected to exhibit outstanding customer skills and interact in a positive manner with the public. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and normally filled internally by advancement from Trainee level or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience. An incumbent in this position may be designated as follows: Stormwater Maintenance Worker Trainee Under direct supervision, this is the entry-level class in the Stormwater Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents generally have no to limited related work experience. Incumbents receive considerable amount of instruction or assistance in the performance of the duties assigned to this class. Stormwater Maintenance Worker I Under general supervision, this is the intermediate-level class in the Stormwater Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents assigned to this class are expected to perform the full range of duties assigned to this class. Incumbents receive some instruction or assistance in the performance of the duties assigned to this class. Stormwater Maintenance Worker II Under limited supervision, this is the journey-level class in the Stormwater Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents assigned to this class are expected to perform the full range of duties assigned to this class with limited supervision and direction. Stormwater Maintenance Worker III Under direction, this is the senior-level class in the Stormwater Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents assigned to this class are expected to perform the full range of duties assigned to this class and are expected to work with independence and initiative; work may be reviewed during performance and upon completion. May mentor, train or lead less experienced workers upon request.
MAJOR DUTIES
All Stormwater Maintenance Workers Inspects, maintains, repairs and constructs City stormwater infrastructure including, but not limited to: Swales, ditches, canals, creeks and other drainage ways Curb and gutters, concrete lined ditches, riprap, headwalls and mitered end sections Curb, gutter, and ditch bottom inlets, manholes and other drainage structures Concrete, HDPE, CMP and other pipe Dry and Wet Detention and Retention Ponds Trench drains, under drains, french drains and exfiltration/infiltration trenches Interceptors, filtration and other various BMP devices Miscellaneous asphalt and concrete construction and repairs. Clears and digs ditches with shovels, places sandbags, and performs related work in trenches. Removes and clears vegetation, including aquatic vegetation. Operates various automotive vehicles, trucks and side-by-sides. Performs heavy manual labor such as: digging, lifting, hauling, etc. Washes, fuels, performs light service repairs, lubricates, and makes minor inspections and corrections on vehicles and equipment, in a shop or in the field. Maintains accurate, detailed work logs and inspection reports. Conducts themselves in a safe and professional manner. May work a varying schedule and/or shift, including on-call. May be required to work overtime. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned. Stormwater Maintenance Worker I In addition to the previous duties: Performs limited surveying and layout work to establish lines, grades, and dimensions. Operates light and/or heavy construction equipment. Embankment, excavation and other related earthwork. Performs general carpentry work for various structures and concrete. Set up and operate pumps, compressors, generators, concrete mixers, etc. May perform irrigation installation and repairs. Stormwater Maintenance Worker II In addition to the previous duties: Performs pipe laying and drainage structure construction as directed by supervisor. Stormwater Maintenance Worker III In addition to the previous duties: Assist the Stormwater Maintenance Manager and supervisor including but not limited to: Project identification Equipment, machinery, personnel and other departmental needs Transports materials and equipment to the jobsite. May mentor, train or lead less experienced workers upon request.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Stormwater Maintenance Worker Trainee High School Diploma/GED. Possession of or ability to obtain a Florida Driver's License with acceptable driving record upon hire. Additional Minimum Qualifications of Stormwater Maintenance Worker I One (1) Year Experience in Stormwater Maintenance experience. One (1) Year Experience Light Equipment Operation. Possession or ability to obtain within one (1) year: Stormwater Management Certificate Course 3 FDOT MOT Intermediate Training Certificate Flexibility to Perform All Stormwater Related Duties. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Additional Minimum Qualifications of Stormwater Maintenance Worker II Three (3) Years Experience in Stormwater Maintenance experience. Three (3) Years Experience with Light and Heavy Equipment Operation. Possession or ability to obtain within one (1) year: Class B CDL (Class A Preferred) Stormwater Management Certificate Course 2 Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Additional Minimum Qualifications of Stormwater Maintenance Worker III Five (5) Years Experience in Stormwater Maintenance, including Four (4) Years Experience with Light and Heavy Equipment Operation. Possession or ability to obtain within one (1) year: Class B CDL (Class A Significantly Preferred) Stormwater Management Certificate Course 1 Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
