About This Role Right-of-Way mowing, edging, and string trimming Safely operate and fuel a variety of landscape equipment including gas-powered string trimmers, stick edgers, pole saws, backpack blowers, chainsaws, commercial grade pick-up trucks, trailers, 4-wheel drive utility carts, and other miscellaneous small hand-operated landscape maintenance tools Perform small-engine repairs, safety checks, and routine maintenance on the department equipment using pneumatic, power, and hand tools Utilize and follow diagrams, maps, written instructions, and blueprints to install landscaping or perform right-of-way maintenance Perform right-of-way maintenance work that includes hand weeding, mulching, digging, turf trimming, tree trimming, collection and disposal of litter, removal or installation of plant materials and trees
Work Hours :
6:30 a.m.
  • 5:00 p.m. Off season
  • Fall Schedule:
    November
  • May, 4 workdays, 10
  • hour days, Monday-Thursday. (Optional Overtime) In season
  • Summer Schedule:
    June
  • October, 5 workdays, 10
  • hour days, Monday
  • Friday.
(Mandatory Overtime) Occasional weekend work may be required based on Department needs
About You Minimum Qualifications :
A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • OR•the ability to obtain a GED within six (6) months from the time of hire One year of experience in landscaping, contract mowing, or landscape grounds maintenance A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire
Preferred Qualifications :
Ability to operate and perform general maintenance on a variety of landscape equipment and small engine repairs
Physical Demands:
Must frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds May be required to lift and move concrete bags weighing 60 pounds
  • This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years
About Everything Else Starting Pay:
$18.21 (Step 1) Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience In-season potential gross earnings of $911/per week
