Duties Help (Duties include but are not limited to): Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in making determinions in the use of pesticides, chemicals, fertilizer and grass seed needed for the upkeep of an 27 hole Golf Course which includes greens, tees, fairways, roughs, practice range, equipment maintenance building, equipment storage building, chemical storage and mixing building, irrigion system, pump house and ponds within the confines of the Golf Course. Tours the Golf Course to review work in progress and to observe the condition of the Golf Course. Assists and ensures the proper functioning of the irrigion system and determines the correct amount of wer applied on greens, tees, and fairways under various climic conditions. May make decisions on the amounts and types of soil nutriments and fertilizers to be applied to greens, fairways and roughs. Must know how to take soil samples and decipher results for necessary amendments. Administers amounts and types of soil nutriments and fertilizers for the greens, tees, fairways and roughs. Assists and makes recommendions for the selection, applicion, storage, and otherwise safe handling of pesticides and other toxic substances. Takes preventive measures to prevent damage to the course by small animals. Oversees the Hazardous Merial and Hazardous Waste Program for the Golf Course. Must be able to recognize turf damage by fungus and insects, apply fungicide, pesticide and pemicides to correct problem. Must be able to calibre sprayers and sprinklers so th the correct amount of merials applied to designed areas. Assists in ensuring th equipment is maintained and repairs are performed to acceptable standards. Offers advice in the selection of new and replacement equipment for the Golf Course and its maintenance. Insures through the mechanic th the equipment assigned is an acceptable standard to maintain the Golf Course. Plans changes and improvements to the Golf Course. Assists with the requisition, storing, and inventories of equipment, pesticides, fertilizers, and other merials required maintaining Golf Course. Ensures approprie Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and used properly. Assists in staff selections, training and job assignments. Approves leave and verifies time cards. Provides job descriptions for employees. Assists and provides input for employees annual performance evaluions. Supervises Tractor Opere Leaders, (15) Tractor Operors, (1) Mechanic Leader, and (1) Motor Vehicle Operor. May assist with annual budget estimes for course maintenance within the framework of a specified allocion. Submits request for purchase of all needed merials, new equipment and maintenance of items on hand. Maintains records as required by the MWR Department to include MSDS, safety, schedules, correspondence, purchase orders, etc. Assists, consults, and advises other MWR Division Managers on turf management. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigion. Work may require sitting, walking, long periods of standing, bending and lifting of moderely heavy items up to 80 lbs. unassisted. Incumbent may lift heavier weight, but with assistance. Required to have a knowledge of various types of pests and the pesticides required for trement. Be a gradue of the Navy Department, Medical Entomology and Pest Control Technology Course of tend and complete the course within 6 months after employment. Experience in determining the method of operion and analysis of complex problems and interpretions of procedures. Required having a working knowledge and professional expertise of Golf Course equipment. Required having knowledge and understanding of the rules of golf along with the ability to view golf course from the perspective of the pron. Must possess ability to lead and supervise employees.
