Lead Roadway Technician/Zone Superintendent General Job Description Performs daily work activities of maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) per standards and conditions specified in the contract and as directed by the supervisor. Essential Functions High ethics and moral character; sound judgement Honest and transparent Self-Starter; strong motivation and ability to take initiative This position requires being available outside of normal business hours as needed, and participating in an on-call rotation on nights, weekends and holidays as may be needed. Perform maintenance activities based upon local work-plan through consultation with Zone Superintendent. Takes care to use and maintain equipment and tools (including vehicles) properly to extend their usefulness. Coordinates and insures availability of equipment, tools and materials to be used at specified times to conform to work schedules. Responds as needed to road closures or incidents. Coordinates with Zone Superintendent and others regarding work performed by subcontractors. Makes suggestions for changes and improvements in work methods to minimize expenses and avoid wasting resources. Inspects and troubleshoots work-in-progress to ensure that timing and workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to the contract and local standards. Performs daily maintenance and repair of highway and other surfaces including potholes, striping, adding or replacing reflectors. Maintains clean appearance of highways and medians through litter and debris removal and disposal (may use litter claw or another device). Repairs/maintains functionality of slopes, berms, culverts, drains, etc. through use of shovels and other hand or power tools and equipment. Controls vegetation appearance and growth through use of lawn mowing equipment, hand or power trimmers, and chemical sprayers and other methods. Maintains the appearance and functionality of signs, guardrails, fence, and lighting through repair and/or replacement using hand or power tools. Keep roadways free of debris including ice and snow by using snow removal and/or sanding equipment Transports crew and equipment to work sites operating vehicle pickup trucks and specialized motor vehicles. All other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Operate various power tools HS Diploma or GED Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (Required) One year work experience in construction, road maintenance (Required) The employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk on a wide range of surfaces; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted Use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric powered tools and equipment Vision abilities include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
