The purpose of this classification is to perform unskilled, manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance, landscaping, and grounds keeping of City streets/roads, rights of way and other public areas.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Performs manual work functions associated with road construction, maintenance and repair projects, which may include repairing roads/asphalt, patching holes, compacting road surfaces, maintaining drainage systems, installing/repairing pipe, installing/repairing water and sewer lines, constructing/repairing ditches, clearing drainage obstructions, clearing ditches/gutters, breaking up pipes and concrete, mixing cement, constructing sidewalks and driveways, cutting pipes, installing fences, spreading asphalt/road materials, digging holes or trenches, fixing/replacing street signs, shoveling materials, lifting/moving heavy materials, and flagging traffic. Performs manual work functions associated with routine maintenance and upkeep of rights of way, parks, grounds, playing fields and other public areas: mows lawns; trims and edges grass; blows leaves from walkways; plants, prunes, and maintains plants, trees and shrubs; spreads mulch; rakes leaves; clears debris; maintains fencing, grounds, bleachers, and park equipment; prepares fields for athletic events; and performs related tasks. Removes litter, debris, and deceased animals from streets/roads, drainage systems, parks, playing fields and City property; travels and established route; monitors cleanliness; picks up litter and debris. Transports, loads and unloads various materials and equipment used in projects. Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergency situations. Performs routine maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, laws, policies, and standards of quality and safety; utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns call as necessary. Receives, prepares or completes various forms and documentation, including work orders, time cards, maintenance reports, spray records, diagrams, maps, manuals, reference materials, and other documents; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Operates a variety of power equipment, machinery and hand tools used in department projects and activities, which may include pick-up truck, mower, tiller, weed eater, edger, blower, asphalt packer, cement mixer, jack hammer, chain saw, saw, axe, shovel, rake, spraying equipment, fertilizer spreader, tractors, infield machines, trenching machine, vibratory roller, auger, bunker rake, and other related tools and equipment.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by some previous work experience in street and/or facility maintenance, grounds keeping or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must possess and maintain the following certifications: Flagging and CPR. May be required to obtain and maintain other certifications and licenses depending on area of assignment.ADA Requirements:
