Job Description

Do you enjoy working outdoors, operating cool equipment, tackling hands-on projects, and making a visible impact in your community? We're looking for hardworking, dependable team players to join our Public Areas crew as a Maintenance Worker I or II! From parks and trails to trees and snowplows, no two days are the same. If you like variety, teamwork, and fresh air (even when it's snowy), this could be the perfect fit. As part of our Public Areas team, you'll help keep City properties safe, clean, functional, and looking great year-round. Depending on your experience and certifications, duties may include: Mowing, trimming, edging, planting, mulching, and landscaping Snow plowing, shoveling, sanding, and ice control Tree trimming, brush cleanup, stump removal, and forestry maintenance Operating equipment like mowers, chainsaws, snow blowers, loaders, dump trucks, tractors, and more Supporting community events and seasonal projects Cleaning up after storms and assisting with emergency response Maintaining parks, cemeteries, trails, public spaces, and City grounds Working with a team that takes pride in keeping the community looking its best Maintenance Worker I Perfect for someone looking to build skills in public grounds and maintenance work. You'll perform routine maintenance tasks and operate light equipment under closer supervision.
Requirements:
Valid Iowa driver's license High school diploma or equivalent Maintenance Worker II Ready for the next level? This role includes greater independence, operation of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, and leadership in daily field operations.
Requirements:
Valid Iowa CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement Two years of related maintenance, landscaping, forestry, snow removal, or equipment operation experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) This is active outdoor work in all kinds of weather conditions, including heat, cold, snow, rain, and wind. The job may require evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-ins during storms or special events. You'll also need to: Pass a background check, physical, and drug screen Obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License within six months of hire Lift materials and equipment and work safely around machinery and traffic
