QUALIFICATIONS
Acceptable Experience and Training:
High school diploma or GED is required, with equipment school certification preferred; Two (2) years experience operating a variety of heavy and medium equipment, and/or successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operator school certification program; and Two (2) years grounds-maintenance/landscaping experience; and Two (2) years irrigation experience; and Two (2) years fabrication experience; and Horticulture certification preferred; and Pesticide applicator's certification preferred; and Playground installation/inspection certification preferred; and Certified arborist preferred; and Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Equipment Operator. Jobs in this class require performing repetitive motions in hand/wrist/arm movements and standing for four or more hours at a time. Related job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally, walking over uneven flooring or construction sites, working in confined spaces, climbing and standing on ladders, crawling, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching and reaching.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Idaho Drivers' License is required; Valid CDL Class A License is preferred.
Knowledge of:
Operation of heavy equipment, hand and power tools and service vehicles; Current lawn, landscape, and horticultural methods and associated requirements; Construction methods and safety practices; Occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in operation of heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and general building and grounds maintenance work; Preparation of detailed and accurate records of work performed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary function of an employee in this position is to perform skilled and semi-skilled installation, repair, and maintenance tasks on the District's outdoor properties and apparatus. Prioritizes, schedules and completes work orders; Meets with school and District personnel to discuss requested projects and expected outcomes; Operates a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, including but not limited to, dump trucks, trenchers, front end loaders and attachments, sweepers, backhoes, snow removal vehicles, and other related equipment; Operates a variety of hand tools and power tools Performs asphalt and concrete repair and replacement Maintains District lawns and landscaping, including mowing, fertilizing, trimming, planting, laying or removing sod, and pest control Responds to emergency situations such as system breaks or blockages, including locating affected areas, clearing drains and maintaining drain fields, traffic control, erection of safety barricades, and notification of affected users; Assists outside contractors on District projects, such as preparing properties for new construction; Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches or landscape plans to determine materials required; Initiates communication with supervisor about needed repairs or status of projects; Attends and actively participates in required training classes.
