BACKGROUND
The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O'Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water. The Village of Fox Lake is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department. This position performs a wide range of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance activities involving the construction, repair, cleaning, and maintenance of Village streets, stormwater systems, facilities, landscaping, forestry, and traffic control devices. Maintenance Worker I employees also perform snow and ice control operations, respond to emergencies, and assist with Village events and Parks and Recreation activities. Work assignments are provided daily and may rotate based on operational needs. This position reports to and works under the general direction of the Streets Supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. 1) Perform maintenance, repair, and construction work on streets, sidewalks, curbs, stormwater and sewer systems, and related infrastructure 2) Operate a variety of vehicles, construction equipment, and hand and power tools as assigned 3) Perform concrete, asphalt, electrical (as permitted), plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and general building maintenance work 4) Conduct landscaping, forestry, and grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, planting, trimming, and debris collection 5) Install, repair, and maintain street signs, traffic control devices, and public facilities 6) Perform snow and ice control operations, including plowing, salting, and shoveling 7) Assist with Village events, parades, and emergency response operations 8) Comply with all Village safety policies and procedures 9) Perform related work as required
QUALIFICATIONS 1
) High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade-related coursework preferred 2) Considerable experience in maintenance, construction, or repair work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 3) Valid driver's license required 4) Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire 5) Ability to safely operate trucks, heavy equipment, and tools used in public works operations 6) Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions 7) Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work cooperatively as part of a team Depending on assignment, additional certifications such as Flagger Certification, Illinois Pesticide Applicator License, Arborist Certification, or traffic control certifications may be required.
WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS
This is a full-time position requiring regular and reliable attendance during a 40-hour work week. The position may require extended hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response situations, particularly during snow and ice control operations. Work is primarily performed outdoors and may involve exposure to hazardous conditions, loud noise, heavy equipment, and physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more with assistance.
