Job Description

Water Line Replacement Maintenance Worker I The City of Arkansas City is seeking a motivated, safety-focused, and dependable individual to assist in replacing aging or damaged water lines with new piping systems to ensure safe and reliable water distribution for our community. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on, outdoor work and being part of a team. Essential functions include the following:
Water Line Construction & Replacement Assist with installation, replacement, and rehabilitation of water lines (excavation, trenching, backfill, surface restoration). Measure, cut, align, and assemble pipe, fittings, valves, hydrants, and service connections. Load and unload materials, tools, and trench safety equipment. System Repair & Emergency Response Assist with locating mains and service lines. Support leak repairs and service restoration. Assist with shutting off, restoring, and verifying water service. Equipment Operation & Jobsite Safety Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment under supervision. Assist with traffic control setup, cones, barricades, and safe work zones. Follow trench safety and confined space procedures. Documentation & System Support Assist with flushing, chlorination, and pressure testing procedures. Record work activities and support GPS data collection. Customer Interaction & Professional Conduct Notify residents of service interruptions and maintain professional interaction. Attend training and maintain regular attendance.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or acceptable equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
KDHE Water Distribution I certification.
Licensing:
Valid Class C Driver's License with safe driving record as determined by the employer.

Abilities:
Basic knowledge of construction, excavation, or ability to learn quickly. Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment. Ability to follow instructions and perform duties accurately. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Professional communication and basic documentation skills (GPS, logs).
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Heavy physical work. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working outdoors (all weather conditions). Exposure to construction sites, noise, dust, and confined spaces.
Normal Work Schedule:
Monday•Friday 7:00 a.m•3:30 p.m. (more likely).
Pay Range:
$18.55/hr.•$26.68/hr.
