Job Description

Job Title:
District Grounds and Maintenance Worker Classification:
Classified Type of Position:
Full Time - 40 hours per week.
Job Summary/Description:
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in several areas of the building trades and groundskeeping in order to repair and maintain assigned buildings, equipment and facilities and to perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Strong communication and organizational skills. Work effectively both independently and as a part of a team, including establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted during performance of job duties. Respond promptly to requests of internal and external clients.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Maintain or repair specialized equipment or machinery located in cafeterias, laundries, offices, playground equipment.
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  • Prepare track, football fields, softball/baseball fields ready for practice and games.
  • Gather and remove litter.
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
  • Operate vehicles or power equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws.
  • Water lawn, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses or watering cans.
  • Prune or time trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
  • Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
  • Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, or other ground features.
  • Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them in spring.
  • Substitute for custodians as needed.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent Valid State Issued Driver's License and have a safe driving record.
Physical Requirements:
Must regularly lift/move objects up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift/move objects up to 150 pounds.. Will be required to regularly stand, sit and walk for extended periods. To view full details and how to apply, please login or create a Job Seeker account
