Job Description

Class Title:
Public Service Worker II -
Streets & Parks Maintenance Supervises:
None Class Characteristics:
Under general direction, assists with construction, maintenance, repairs and cleanliness of municipal streets, drainage systems, parks and public spaces and facilities; assists other departments/divisions as requested; performs related work as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs duties of Public Service Worker I and II - Streets and Park Maintenance. 2. Performs construction, installation, maintenance, repair and/or cleanliness of streets and parks and related infrastructure (alleys, culverts, gutters, etc.) throughout the service area, in compliance with established procedures and standards. 3. Maintains records and maps of all streets within city limits, including storm drains 4. Provides status updates to management on special and ingoing projects and emergency situations 5. Serves as liaison with customers, contractors and businesses 6. Perform street maintenance, including patching, repair, and minor construction. 7. Performs stormwater and drainage maintenance, including cleaning ditches, culverts, and catch basins. 8. Install and maintain traffic signs, barricades, and street markings. 9. Assist with snow and ice removal operations, including plowing, salting, and sanding (as applicable). 10. Mow, trim, edge, and maintain parks, rights-of-way, and public properties, including limb/storm debris removal. 11. Operates and maintains some heavy equipment. 12. Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as mowers, trimmers, loaders, trucks, and hand tools. 13. Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of assigned equipment. 14. Responsible for onsite safety and safety equipment. 15. Assist with special projects, events, and emergency response as assigned. 16. Assists with ordering parts for special projects, submits list of inventory items used and associated paperwork to supervisor for inventory tracking and management. 17. Work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers to complete daily assignments. 18. Assists with training for new hires and ongoing training and assistance to other staff members 19. Attends necessary training programs/testing to maintain required licenses. 20. Inspects and performs repairs of streets and roads as needed. 21. Completes jobs from work orders; returns work orders to appropriate staff for further processing. 22. Responds to emergency situations involving streets and parks. 23. Clean park buildings between rentals, ensuring they are ready for the next group. 24. May have to perform duties after hours, weekends and holidays as needed. 25. Assists other departments/divisions as requested, often performing tasks unrelated to normal job duties.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) supplemented by three (3) to five(5) years of experience.
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of basic street, park, and grounds maintenance practices. 2. Knowledge of materials used in public works activities 3. Knowledge of functions and servicing/maintenance requirements of equipment and machinery 4. Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with safety requirements
Abilities:
1. Ability to detect mechanical flaws and assist with minor repairs on equipment 2. Ability to safely operate equipment and use hand tools. 3. Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions. 4. Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team. 5. Ability to interact courteously with the public. 6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officers and employees, and the general public
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Instructions:
Instructions are very general; must use own judgment most of the time.

Physical Demands of the
Job:
Work is performed outdoors, requiring intermittent standing, walking, stooping; must lift objects over 50 pounds; must operate vehicle and equipment; required to be in high places, confined spaces, and using stairs and ladders; exposed to fumes, chemicals and toxic substances. Tools and/or
Equipment Used:
Vehicle; all equipment and tools assigned to the divisions.
Contacts:
Frequent public and internal contacts requiring tact and diplomacy are requirements of the job.
Mental Effort:
Moderate/heavy.
Licensing Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to respond to emergency situations at all hours.
Drug and Alcohol Testing Requirements:
Must participate in the City's drug and alcohol testing program as a condition of employment and continued employment in the class.
Pay:
$36,117.90 - $57,788.64 per year
