Massachusetts Class B CDL License, Massachusetts Class A CDL License ( Must be obtained within one ( 1 ) year of hire ). SUMMARY The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Work's Highway Division is hiring a Highway Maintenance Craftsperson who will be responsible for maintaining roadways, sidewalks, lawns, trees, drains, sewer lines and public infrastructure such as buildings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE

Perform construction maintenance work on streets, sidewalks, tree belts and other public property. Perform excavation, bracing, sheet pilling and grading. Fill potholes and cave-ins. Maintains, cleans and construct sewers, catch basins, drains and manholes. Clear overgrowth. Actively participates in snow and ice removal operations. Performs "Flag" duties at job sites on occasion. Erects manholes and catch basins. Lays sewer pipe and house waste connections. Constructs sidewalk forms and finishes concrete. May assist in Forestry operations as needed. Operates air compressor and jackhammer. Supervises others and works, in the building and maintenance trades. Performs general labor duties as required. Drives highway maintenance vehicles and completes daily vehicle maintenance logs. Abide by City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies and procedures. ( See attached for full job description )

QUALIFICATIONS

Massachusetts Class B CDL License

• Required . Massachusetts Class A CDL License ( Must be obtained within one ( 1 ) year of hire) .
• Required High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three ( 1
• 3 ) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Required Knowledge of and experience in construction, street and building maintenance, carpentry, and/or other skilled crafts.

Working knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Willingness to perform heavy manual labor.
