Maintenance Supervisor Position Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant supports the YMCA Facilities Director with basic maintenance and improvement projects throughout the building. This position is designed for a vocational school student and provides hands-on experience in building maintenance, repairs, and general facility operations in a supervised environment.
Key Responsibilities:
General Maintenance Support:
Assist with patching holes in walls and basic drywall repairs. Help prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, and taping. Participate in painting projects throughout the facility.
Facility Upkeep:
Support routine maintenance tasks to keep the YMCA clean, safe, and functional. Assist with minor repairs and improvement projects as assigned. Help organize tools, materials, and maintenance areas.
Project Assistance:
Work alongside the Facilities Director on facility improvement tasks. Follow step-by-step instructions for safe and proper completion of projects. Learn basic skills related to carpentry, painting, and general maintenance.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all YMCA safety protocols and guidelines. Properly use and care for tools and equipment under supervision. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when needed. Report any unsafe conditions or hazards immediately.
Teamwork & Communication:
Take direction from the Facilities Director and other staff. Communicate progress and ask questions when unsure. Work cooperatively with staff and respect shared spaces.
Qualifications:
Minimum age: 16 years old Currently enrolled in a vocational/technical school program (preferred) Interest in hands-on work such as construction, maintenance, or facilities management Willingness to learn and follow instructions carefully Reliable, responsible, and punctual
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods Ability to lift and carry materials (up to 25-30 lbs with assistance if needed) Ability to safely use basic tools under supervision
Work Environment:
Indoor and occasional outdoor work areas Exposure to maintenance tools, paint, and building materials Active work setting with varying tasks each day
Important Notes:
This is a supervised, entry-level learning position appropriate for youth workers. All tasks will comply with youth labor laws and safety regulations. The focus is on skill development, safety, and teamwork. Monday - Friday 8:30 - 2:30
