Job Description

General Definition of Work:
The Stormwater Management Maintenance Worker performs tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and improvement of municipal stormwater best management practices (BMPs). This includes tree planting and tree maintenance, cleaning, inspecting, and repairing stormwater management BMPs, storm drains, culverts, and other surface water infrastructure to ensure proper drainage and environmental compliance. Direction is provided by the Stormwater Management
NPDES/MS4
Manager and/or the Stormwater Inspector.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. 1) Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance on stormwater systems including catch basins, culverts, retention ponds, micro-bioretention areas, drainage pipes, fencing, etc. 2) Operate power tools including but not limited to, chainsaw, weed trimmer, mowers, etc. 3) Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to, excavator, backhoe, dump truck, and skid steer, etc. 4) Assists in the retrofit of existing BMPs, construction and installation of new stormwater BMPs. 5) Conduct routine inspections and assessments of stormwater infrastructure to identify issues or needed repairs. 6) Performs maintenance on all County tree planting BMPs, including pruning, landscaping, pesticide application and weed control. 7) Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs. 8) Follow safety protocols and environmental regulations during all operations. 9) Provide care, proper use, and general maintenance of equipment and tools. 10) Assist with snow removal for all facilities including plowing, shoveling and application of ice melts and abrasives. 11) Performs related tasks as required or as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Experience in public works, construction, grounds maintenance or utility maintenance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of stormwater systems and basic drainage infrastructure.
  • Ability to read maps and blueprints related to stormwater and drainage infrastructure.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform outdoor labor in various weather conditions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • 2 or more years of experience in stormwater maintenance and/or installation of stormwater infrastructure, ground maintenance, or construction -related work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is work requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker may be subject to adverse environmental conditions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of an appropriate valid CDL Class B driver's license. Ability to obtain Maryland Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License within 6 months of employment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
Pay:
$24.42 - $26.96 per hour
