Custodian/Maintenance Worker

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and orderly condition of Colonial Baptist Church facilities, ensuring a welcoming and hygienic environment for all worship services, ministry activities, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and assisting with facility setup and teardown for events. The Custodian works under the direction of the Facilities Manager to support the overall mission of the church through effective stewardship of the physical property.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Perform all routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and dusting furniture and fixtures. 2. Clean and sanitize restrooms daily and restock necessary supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper). 3. Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas. 4. Clean windows, glass doors, and interior partitions. 5. Assist with minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and making small repairs as directed. 6. Assist the Facilities Manager with setup and teardown of tables, chairs, and equipment for various church events, meetings, and services. 7. Monitor and report any maintenance issues or repairs needed to the immediate supervisor. 8. Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when restocking is necessary. 9. Ensure all areas are secured after shifts, including locking doors and windows and checking security systems as instructed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to perform duties efficiently.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professional behavior.

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

• 1-2 years of experience in custodial or commercial cleaning work is preferred.
• Experience operating standard floor care and cleaning equipment.
