Job Summary The Multi-Trade Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and operational support activities across multiple building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general trades. This position supports the University's Facilities Operations by responding to service requests, performing preventive maintenance, and assisting with system troubleshooting to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable campus operations. This role has been reclassified from a third-shift Maintenance Mechanic position to a Multi-Trade Technician to better align with current operational needs, improve workforce flexibility, and enhance recruitment efforts in a highly competitive labor market. The position will support multiple trades disciplines and provide broader coverage across campus facilities. Authority and Accountability This position reports to the Building Trades Manager, no budget or authority responsibilities. Required/Minimum Qualifications Minimum 2-4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a skilled trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related field) Demonstrated ability to perform work across multiple trades disciplines Working knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues independently Strong communication and teamwork skills Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Trade certification or license (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) Experience in higher education or institutional facilities Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
