GENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN I

$15.68/HR Under immediate supervision, performs routine tasks involved in a variety of city services. These tasks range from strenuous physical labor of routine grounds/landscape maintenance work and/or construction, maintenance and repair work, and general cleaning and janitorial work in municipal buildings and facilities. Examples of Duties Perform any of a variety of tasks involving physical strength and agility, such as hand tools, including, but not limited to, grass mowing equipment and other yard tools. (must wear steel toe boots
- ) Perform routine labor/maintenance work in an outdoor setting such as removing debris, shrubbery, overgrowth and miscellaneous items from walkways, alleys, corridors and other areas.
Clean assigned areas and equipment. Assist with erecting, repairing, and constructing fences, including but not limited to, wooden and metal. Utilize common hand tools, including, but not limited to, wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, and other tools used to perform routine groundwork/landscape. Clean walls, windows, restrooms, water coolers and other water dispensing units, swimming pools, kitchen equipment, interior and exterior surfaces of vehicles. Sweep dusts, waxes, mops, and polishes floors, stairs, woodwork, elevators and furniture. Operate shredding equipment, vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, polishers, buffers or other industrial cleaning equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required General Environmental Technician 1
- GSD Graduation from high school or G.E.D. General Environmental Technician 1
- GSD•DL (PREFERRED)
Qualifications:
Valid State of Michigan Driver's License.

01/17/2025 Licensing and Certifications Employees are required to wear appropriate safety attire in accordance with departmental and OSHA safety regulations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of commonly used hand tools. Basic knowledge of tools and materials commonly associated with landscaping/ground maintenance work. Basic knowledge of common janitorial practices and equipment. Skill in utilizing common gardening hand tools and equipment. Skill in cleaning offices, buildings, and grounds. Ability to understand and follow oral/written directions. Ability to display physical strength and dexterity. Ability to perform all the duties of the classification. Ability to work effectively as part of a work group/team. Physical Demands The employee generally engages in light to strenuous physical activity which may include operating machinery, motor vehicles, and using tools for an extended period of time. The employee is expected to move about and ascend/descend (e.g. stairs, ladders etc.) to accomplish tasks. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds. Work Environment Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to conditions which may include fumes, extreme heat and cold, wetness, loud noise, dust, inclement weather and hazardous chemicals. Some work requires travel to meetings, conferences, and other work sites with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
