Job Description

Position Overview:
The County Maintenance and Grounds Assistant is responsible for assisting with the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of county facilities, including the courthouse, jail, marina, airport and transfer station. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, provides assistance to the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor, and coordinates with contractors and engineers on facility projects. Key responsibilities include facility cleaning, plumbing and HVAC maintenance, seasonal groundskeeping, vehicle upkeep, and enforcement of courthouse parking regulations. The Assistant supervises minor construction repairs, and ensures the proper functioning of essential equipment such as boilers and generators. Additionally, the role includes assisting with office cosmetic updates, and maintaining certifications relevant to safety and maintenance operations. This position requires a strong ability to multitask, manage personnel, and that all county properties remain in excellent working condition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. All County Facilities a. Maintain MIOSHA certification and continuing education b. All assigned custodial duties. 2. Courthouse a. Complete MIOSHA classes at request of supervisor. b. Ensure flag maintenance and compliance with State and Federal Regulations c. Perform daily cleaning of all offices, restrooms, and hallways d. Conduct routine carpet shampooing e. Clean and maintain walls, windows and light fixtures f. Address plumbing issues, including water and sewer repairs. g. Perform wall repairs and painting. h. Maintain and repair courthouse toilets and restroom facilities. i. Coordinate with contractors and engineers for maintenance and renovation projects j. Obtain cost estimates for various projects and provide to Supervisor. k. Perform minor concrete maintenance and repairs with supervision. l. Maintain and service all courthouse vehicles. m. Oversee air handling equipment and perform routine maintenance. n. Conduct heating system maintenance. o. Oversee seasonal grounds maintenance, including lawn care and snow removal. p. Assist courthouse staff with office cosmetic updates. q. Conduct and document weekly boiler readings. r. Perform weekly generator testing and maintenance. s. Paint and maintain parking lot lines. t. Enforce courthouse parking regulations and maintain signage u. Transport garbage to transfer station daily. 3. Jail a. Maintain MIOSHA Training Certification. b. Address plumbing issues, including toilets, showers, faucets, leaks and sewer maintenance. c. Collaborate with contractors and engineers on facility improvements. d. Oversee seasonal grounds maintenance, including landscaping and snow removal. e. Manage garbage removal services. 4. Marina a. Perform maintenance and repairs on sewer pumps. b. Address and repair water leaks 5. Transfer Station a. Basic cleaning of office 6. Airport a. Provide if needed. i. Cleaning and maintenance of inside and outside of Terminal ii. Ordering and maintaining supplies iii. Ensure flag maintenance and compliance with State and Federal Regulations. iv. Perform daily cleaning of all offices, restrooms and hallways. v. Shampooing carpets vi. Cleaning and maintaining walls and windows. vii. Maintaining light fixtures viii. Seasonal grounds maintenance including, law care and snow removal ix. Assist with office updates.
Pay:
$19.00 per hour
