Job Overview Under the general supervision of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance Worker II performs skilled and semi‑skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of County buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, and equipment. The position supports day‑to‑day facility operations through preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and timely response to service requests. Duties Perform routine and skilled building maintenance, including carpentry, painting, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, and basic HVAC support. Conduct preventive maintenance on mechanical systems, equipment, and building infrastructure. Complete work orders related to minor construction, remodeling, repairs, and facility improvements. Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, snow/ice removal, and debris cleanup. Maintain custodial standards in assigned facilities and performs cleaning and sanitation duties as needed. Operate maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles safely (e.g., mowers, tractors, power tools). Monitor inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment; submits requests for replenishment. Assist in coordinating outside contractors and may provide direction to seasonal staff or inmate work crews. Follow established safety procedures and ensure compliance with County policies and applicable regulations. Respond to after‑hours emergencies or on‑call assignments as required. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Three to five years of relevant work experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction trades, or a closely related field. Experience should include at least one of the following: basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC support, or general repair and maintenance. Special Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet County driving eligibility standards. Must successfully pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and drug screening. May be required to complete additional background checks depending on assigned facilities or work locations. Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements Ability to operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools, including tractors, mowers, table saws, sanders, trimmers, hand tools, mechanical tools, and custodial equipment. Ability to safely use cleaning supplies, chemicals, and maintenance materials. Ability to exert physical effort in moderate to heavy work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance. Requires sufficient visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination to perform detailed repair and maintenance tasks. Mathematical Ability Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages as required in measuring, estimating, and performing maintenance tasks. Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, manuals, safety procedures, and policies. Ability to clearly and accurately record and deliver information, complete required documentation, and meet deadlines. Ability to understand and use basic mechanical and electrical terminology. Ability to make independent judgments when necessary and prioritize multiple work assignments effectively. Ability to maintain composure, exercise tact, and handle difficult situations professionally. Ability to provide courteous, helpful, and respectful service when interacting with County staff, contractors, and the public. Environmental Adaptability Ability to work effectively both indoors in office or courthouse environments and outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions. Ability to comply with OSHA standards and all applicable safety requirements.
Pay:
