Position Summary Performs a variety of preventative maintenance and repair tasks on airport facilities and equipment. Assists with daily airport inspections, operates snow removal equipment to keep runways, taxiways, roads and parking lots free of snow and ice, processing accounts payable and receivable and other programs as assigned by the Airport Manager. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Tests electrical circuits to locate problems. Replaces outlets, ballasts and light switches. Assists with major electrical repairs. 2. Performs plumbing repairs such as repairing leaks and unplugging drains. Installs new plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, drinking fountains, and assists with major plumbing projects. 3. Performs a variety of carpentry tasks such as hanging and finishing drywall, installing door frames and hanging doors, building walls and partitions, and constructing storage and shelving units. Assists with major construction projects. 4. Inspects and monitors the operation of heating and air conditioning units, checking filters, adding boiler chemicals, trouble-shooting problems, cleaning evaporators and condenser cells, changing belts and motors, lubricating bearings and monitoring the operation of air handler units. 5. Performs masonry work such as removing and replacing brick sills, repairing bad mortar joints, repairing sidewalks and steps, and patching holes in asphalt. 6. Performs roof repairs such as patching, replacing flashing, and related repairs. 7. Performs interior and exterior painting, includes repairing and preparing walls for painting and applying various types of paint. May require the use of ladders and scaffolding. 8. Performs airport grounds maintenance functions such as mowing grass, trimming lawns, trees and shrubs, raking, picking up debris, seeding grass, applying lawn chemicals, blowing leaves, shoveling snow, spreading salt, and other related grounds tasks. 9. Sets up and arranges meeting rooms, requires the moving of tables and other furniture. 10. Ensures the safe operation and storage of maintenance tools and equipment. 11. Performs repairs to mechanical equipment such as locks and security equipment, mowers and grounds equipment, maintenance equipment, and various other items. 12. Performs general repairs to airport buildings, fixtures, and equipment such as repairing or replacing broken windows, replacing light bulbs, replacing ballasts, welds brackets, braces and other devices. 13. Operates snow blowers, hedge trimmers, mowers, hand tools, vacuum, cleaning chemicals, scrubbers, mops, and so forth. Utilizes safety equipment. 14. Processes or assists with accounts receivable and payable and other programs as assigned by the Airport Manager. 15. Ensures that NOTAMS (notice to air missions) are issued on items critical to pilots such as snow and ice on runways and airport construction. 16. Communicates with the control tower for authorization to go onto the airfield and knows and applies airport rules and regulations including NOTAMS (notice to air missions) procedures. Inspects the airfield and spot checks hangars for security purposes. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKIILLS
Education:
High school graduation or equivalent. Prefer skills training in electrical, plumbing and other building trades areas. Familiar with word processing and spreadsheets.. Experience:
Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems. Prior airport experience preferred. A valid Michigan Drivers License.
