Job Description

JOB The Drain Maintenance Worker position is a great job for anyone who enjoys working outdoors, is skilled with using outdoor maintenance tools and equipment, and works well in a team atmosphere. The selected candidate will work closely with the Drain Commissioner, Chief Deputy Drain Commissioner, and most often with the Drain Maintenance Supervisor. A good deal of physical work is involved with this position. Ideal candidates will have the necessary skill sets, but there will be opportunities to learn on the job. Under the direct supervision of the Drain Commissioner and/or Maintenance Supervisor, mows and hand cuts brush and performs other tasks to assist in the maintenance of county drains and their adjoining right of ways. Assists in maintaining Drain Commissioner equipment. Newaygo County offers a generous fringe benefit package which includes retirement and health insurance with no payroll deduction. Additionally, longevity pay increases are available beyond the top hourly rate as listed above.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
May operate tractors, mowers, brush trimmer and spray equipment to maintain drains and right of way. Trims and sprays grasses, trees and brush with power and hand equipment. Removes brush, trees and other debris from drains. Operates chain saw and other power equipment Performs routine maintenance departmental vehicles and equipment, which includes changing oil and filters, lubricating, changing fluids, sharpening blades. Performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs on hand and power mowers, and equipment. Also various facilities under the control and jurisdiction of the Drain Commissioner. May serve in an "on-call" basis for evening or week-end maintenance requests. Assists in the installation of Soil Erosion Controls such as rock rip rap, silt fence, etc. as directed by the Drain Commissioner and/or Drain Maintenance Supervisor.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License.
