Job Description
General The Part-Time Transportation Department position is an entry level position within the Transportation Department and performs a wide variety of semi-skilled assignments in maintenance and construction work on street projects and traffic control devices. Supervision Received The Part-Time Transportation Department position performs under the direct supervision of the Transportation Superintendent. Supervision Exercised Not applicable Examples of Essential Duties The following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive: Patches asphalt streets and prepares streets for asphalt; grades gravel streets, shoulders and other street work as necessary Sands, salts, and removes snow from streets and City parking lots when necessary Performs a variety of tasks, including installation of guardrails, concrete pads, conduits, and maintenance and repair tasks involving carpentry, painting, and general electrical work Participates in the installation and maintenance of traffic devices on construction projects Follows departmental policies and procedures Performs storm drainage ditch cleaning and routine maintenance Maintains good working relationships with fellow employees and supervisors Cleans gutters, culverts, and other storm drainage structures Maintains an open line of communications with other City employees May assist in the maintenance and repair of City parks Follows rules and policies to be in compliance with safe working practices Performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of streets and parks May operate light equipment such as dump trucks, pick-up trucks, and similar equipment Performs routine maintenance and service on motor vehicles and equipment Performs other related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision Ability to carry out general mechanical tasks Ability to develop and maintain detailed, accurate records and reports Ability to deal effectively with the general public and City employees and officials Ability to communicate both orally and written with employees, public officials, and others when required Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions, appropriate to the position Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations of City personnel policy and department procedure manuals Working knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and methods employed in the maintenance and repair of streets and parks Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent Must possess a valid Missouri Driver's license One year experience in the Public Works field or Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the Transportation Superintendent and approved by the City Administrator
