Job Description

Description Downtown Cary Park, the result of nearly 20 years of dreaming and inspired planning, is a place to escape, unwind, revel in nature's beauty, and make new discoveries. This recently opened community-led project is a highly anticipated enhancement to Cary and the greater Triangle community that will be an iconic public space for all Cary citizens, a catalyst for future development of downtown, and a regional destination for central North Carolina. Cary is filled with people who are passionate about delivering the best experience for our visitors. Our team is seeking Downtown Park Maintenance Workers to perform routine work in the care and maintenance of the Downtown Cary Park, including clearing pathways, cleaning surfaces, and removing trash. This role will also provide generalized support for program, production, and operational staff and will provide exemplary customer service to park visitors. In addition to performing ongoing maintenance work, Downtown Park Maintenance Workers will provide support for weekly events such as Saturday Farmer's Markets, monthly events such as Final Fridays and Night Market, and concerts and specialized events such as the Pimento Cheese Festival. Work is performed independently with general supervision from the Facilities and Grounds Team Coordinators. Work will require a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Schedule Information This recruitment will fill three part-time temporary positions with schedules that may include: Morning shifts (7:30 AM - 2:00 PM) Evening shifts (4:30 PM - 11:00 PM) Weekday, weekend, and rotating schedules Current staffing needs are concentrated on the following days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings Schedules are subject to change based on operational needs. Typical Tasks Removes silt and debris from flat surfaces using blowers Cleans windows and exterior glass surfaces on various facilities within the park Removes and appropriately disposes of trash, litter, recycling and compostable materials Performs visual inspection of restrooms, buildings, and amenities to ensure cleanliness and safety Polishes plumbing fixtures in restrooms Assists with providing generalized support for program, production, and operational staff Provides exemplary guest satisfaction experience through public interaction May be asked to respond to other job-related calls for assistance as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Some knowledge in routine facility maintenance Basic knowledge of special event logistics Knowledge of standard workplace safety practices Ability to work independently Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff Ability to communicate effectively and provide guidance to the general public when needed. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Education and Experience Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED. Requires some experience in facility maintenance and/or special event logistical support. Physical Requirements Work in this class is medium to heavy and may require exposure to various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and rain. An employee must have the physical agility to move about freely, including climbing stairs and ladders, walking for long periods, and the endurance necessary to operate the equipment. The physical ability to lift moderate to heavy items for extended periods is required. The ability to reach, stoop, kneel, etc., is also required. Visual acuity is necessary in order to perform custodial and maintenance functions and observe needed repairs. Conditions of Employment Requires a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI finger-printing, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
