Job Description
Performs various semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of town buildings, parks and recreation areas. An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks that relate to building repair and maintenance of parks, ball fields, and recreation facilities. Work may include operation of equipment. Worked is performed under the immediate supervision of the Parks Maintenance Crew Supervisor and is checked by observation and by reports. Performs grounds keeping activities such as mowing grass, weeding, weed-eating, and mulching. Makes regular inspections of parks; removes leaves, empties trash, stocks and cleans restrooms; inspects for needed repairs. Performs building maintenance such as painting, carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing and roofing tasks. Drags, lines and sets bases for ball fields. Operates backhoe, front end loader, rubber tire tractor, bobcat, mowing equipment, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and edgers. Assists in set up for special town functions and activities. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Work requires general knowledge of tools and equipment used in the work assigned. Must have the ability to operate tools and equipment used in the work assigned. Must have the ability to perform strenuous work for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships. North Carolina Class C driver's license. Physical Requirements Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking and hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to perform mechanical or skilled trades' tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, and painters. Must possess the visual acuity to be the operator of trucks, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment. The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and noise. The worker is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilations. The worker may come in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of his/her duties.
