Job Description

This is the first level of the Highway Maintenance series. Incumbents are responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled manual labor by maintaining and repairing County highways, bridges, and other properties. Responsibilities include operating light and heavy equipment in performing maintenance of highways and bridges; performing routine/minor equipment repairs; and assisting in installation of new signs, posts for traffic services as needed. Operates a wide variety of heavy equipment to a varying degree of difficulty, including but not limited to the following: semi-tractor trailer, dump trucks, motor graders, front end loaders, bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, rollers, mowers, asphalt related equipment, and other equipment associated with road and bridge maintenance. Responsible for preventive maintenance and upkeep of Participates with other maintenance personnel to perform general labor duties using hand tools including but not limited to: shovels, rakes, post-hole diggers, brooms, scrapers, for use in shop and grounds maintenance, asphalt patching, preparing culvert beds, snow removal, etc. Places traffic control signs and devices, assists traffic through work zones as Operates jackhammers, air compressors, mechanical tampers, power saws, hydraulic drivers and similar Performs related work as required including routine repair and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, buildings and grounds as Generates detailed daily time cards, material and work Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid Class A North Dakota Driver's License. Successfully pass a DOT medical examination when renewing commercial driver's license required to operate assigned equipment.
