- Electrician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all electrical motors, machines, fixtures, and wiring, or any electrical extensions as required by the college. The Maintenance Worker II
- Electrician assists in HVAC maintenance, plumbing, and general maintenance throughout the Plant as required.
Maintain Circuit Breaker:
Check load on circuit breaker using an amp meter. Disconnect conductors from the breaker, install a new breaker, connect conductors, and replace the cover on the breaker panel. Maintain P.A.System:
Check standby batteries. Check acid level, add battery water if needed. Clean the tops of the batteries.Maintain Emergency Lighting:
Check wet cell batteries. Add fluid if needed. Clean battery. Replace bad batteries. Replace bad cell batteries as needed. Operation and Maintenance of the Fire Alarm System.Remodeling Projects:
Shut down the alarm system in the area that is being remodeled. Remove smoke and heat detectors. Install new conduit and wiring for detectors. Install new detectors and activate the alarm circuitClean Detectors:
Shut down alarm system, clean faulty detectors, activate alarm circuit, and maintain transformer vault. Clean the transformer vault using cleaning equipment. Check voltage and amperage on the secondary side of the transformer and record. Assists with General Maintenance as assigned: assists the plumbing and heating specialist with mechanical or electrical problems. Assist the refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic with mechanical or electrical problems. Assist in programming and maintaining climate control system/HVAC systems, performplete maintenance and repair, including changing motors, belts, and filters, greasing motors and pulleys, bleeding air from the system, and adjusting the fresh-air intake, adjusting individual room temperatures, and assisting in operating the building automation system. Supervise assigned workers: Work with and closely supervise workers, including student workers, assigned to work with the person in this position. Coordinate electrical installation on remodeling projects: Meet with the department head to review plans. Make up an estimate on materials and cost for projects. Order materials for projects. Proceed with electrical installation. Maintain Inventory onElectrical Equipment and Materials:
Check stock. Order materials. Assist inBudget Preparation:
Budget for electrical needs. Inspect electrical work while in process and uponpletion. Monitor the work of contractors. Review the operation of equipment installed by contractors. Maintain electronic key-lock/access systems. Delegate work orders to assigned workers. Inspect electrical work being done by assigned staff or student workers. Maintain work orders and time sheets daily.Change Light Bulbs/Repair Light Fixtures:
Change light bulbs or repair light fixtures in gymnasiums, outdoor courts, street lights, security lights, and in buildings. Use a scaffold or step ladder for interior lights. Use an extended scaffold on a forklift or bucket truck for exterior lights. Remove shade or open fixture, change bulb, or repair light fixture.Operate Equipment and Hand Tools:
Responsible for safe operation of hand tools and equipment while performing various essential functions of the position. This includes pliers, dikes, screwdrivers, nut drivers, pipe wrenches, socket wrenches, vise grips, hammers, crescent wrench, pipe threader, pipe cutter, power vise threaders, electric drills, hammer drills, torch, flaring tool, levels, gasket cutter, hacksaw, bearing puller, reciprocating saw, wet-dry vacuum cleaners, tin-working tools, volt meters, ohm meters, amp meters, circuit bracer, fluorescent tube and ballast tester, watt/voh meter recorder, a/c amp recorder, outlet tester, tick tracer, pedestal buffer and grinder, drill press. Communicate with supervisors and staff in a professional and accurate manner on a daily basis. Read, review, understand, interpret, and utilize blues and other schematic diagrams. Must be able to construct or remodel according to prepared plans. Marginal Functions Assist in the maintenance of all custodial and maintenance equipment. Assist with snow removal. Drive/operate a 1/2- to 3/4-ton pickup to transport oneself and deliver position-related equipment to various locations on campus. Drive/operate aerial bucket to transport self and deliver position-related equipment to various locations on campus. Drive/operate a passenger car or a 1/2
- to 3/4-ton pickup to transport self to pick up emergency repairs off campus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stand on your feet for extended periods of time. Walk on a hard surface. Lift 80 lbs. on a regular basis. Carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis. Hand-eye coordination to operate equipment. Reach overhead on a repetitive basis. Climb on ladders or scaffolding to heights of 24 feet. Work outside under extreme hot and cold conditions. Work in areas with noise, some requiring the use of hearing protection. Work in areas requiring the use of safety glasses. Work in areas involving dusts, odors, fumes, and gases. Work inside under extreme hot conditions. Work outside under extreme cold conditions. Ability to work professionally and cooperatively with others. Ability tomunicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone. Ability to use basicputer skills. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable amodation, using some otherbination of skills and abilities. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or GED. Minimum of four (4) years related work experience in the electrical field, or minimum of three (3) years' related work experience plus an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Technology. Currently hold an Electrical Journeyman's License, or obtain license within six months of hire. This license must be acknowledged in the state of Nebraska. Desired Qualifications Experience in Commercial wiring. Experience operating a Building Automation System. Experience working from a blue, start to finish, on Construction Projects of various sizes. Salary $23.59 per hour Benefits SCC BEN Dollars•Eligible Employees:
Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for ie and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan- Group Retirement Account (GRA).
