NATURE AND SCOPE
The Maintenance and Event Facilitator provides the unique opportunity to care for a national historic landmark and the accompanying facilities and grounds that make up The Durham Museum. This is a hands-on position that supports both internal and external customers and has daily responsibilities in building and grounds maintenance, security, and event support. This position requires a keen and intuitive understanding of building maintenance and operations and what it takes to keep things running, repaired, and ready. This position performs routine duties to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the Museum and its grounds. Space readiness for internal and external events will also be part of this role. This position takes direction from both the Maintenance and Event Supervisor and the Senior Manager of Facility Operations. This position maintains a flexible schedule to ensure coverage as needed.
RESPONSIBILITES
:
Maintenance of Museum Campus and Grounds :
Complete daily tasks for the upkeep of the Museum's interior, including routine walkthroughs, trash pickup and general custodial duties. Complete daily tasks for the upkeep of the parking deck and outside grounds, including routine walkthroughs, plant care, lawn and weed maintenance and trash pickup. Perform periodic deep cleaning, painting, and other one-time projects. Respond promptly to maintenance or cleaning issues, fixits, and radio calls. Perform light maintenance work including carpentry/painting, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repair. Notify Maintenance and Event Supervisor when supplies are running low or additional equipment is needed. Respond to weather events as quickly and efficiently as possible to secure the building and ensure the safety of staff and guests. Seasonally remove snow and ice to ensure safety of staff and guests. Flag any system issues and assist with monitoring and checking systems as directed. Monitor Museum campus for pests and check and change traps regularly. Be a conduit for communication between those using the building and the Senior Manager to address questions and in a timely manner. Follow standard operating procedures for preventative maintenance.
Security :
Ensure Museum and grounds are safe and secure. Perform opening and closing procedures to ensure Museum and grounds are ready for employees and customers and secure at the end of the day.
Event Support and Asset Management :
Execute event setup and tear down, including tables, chairs, dance floor, and stage as directed. Provide a safe and secure environment for Museum events and facility rentals and perform general custodial duties throughout the event. Assist Senior Managers, Event Managers, and vendors during facility rentals to support the execution of successful events. Clean and maintain Museum furniture and other assets. Relocate items for other departments as directed. Assist in special projects for other departments as directed.
Additional Responsibilities :
Work with the Senior Manager of Facility Operations to establish and execute annual departmental goals. Support the Museum's overall strategies and operational activities within the Facility Operations department. Participate in all mandatory training and safety programs required and provided by the Museum. Embody the Museum's mission, vision, values, and core competencies related to the position. Perform other duties related to Facility Operations team as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to adapt and respond to emerging needs and comfortable in a hands-on and fast-paced environment. Commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork. Effective and timely communication and time management skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends. Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform work within maintenance trades.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Variable schedule including evening and weekend hours to meet Museum needs. Routine periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, climbing, lifting, and balancing are required. Must be able to operate machinery, climb ladders, lift 50lbs, go up and down stairs, and sit or stand for extended periods. Must be comfortable with heights and tight spaces.
