Job Description

Position Summary We are looking for a dependable, proactive, and committed Maintenance and Groundskeeping Assistant to join our team at Carlsbad LifeHouse. This role is responsible for maintaining and caring for the facility, including both indoor and outdoor areas. The technician ensures a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment that fosters a therapeutic setting for both clients and staff. Key Responsibilities Facility Maintenance Perform routine maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), carpentry, and general building repairs Conduct daily inspections of interior and exterior spaces to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns Respond to maintenance requests and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and systems to ensure continuous operation Assist with setting up and breaking down for special events, meetings, and facility activities Address emergency maintenance situations such as system malfunctions or building issues Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or services as needed Ensure all maintenance work is completed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations Maintain accurate records of completed work, equipment maintenance, and supply usage Groundskeeping Maintain exterior grounds, including mowing, trimming, edging, and clearing walkways to provide a clean and safe outdoor environment Plant and maintain landscaping elements such as flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance curb appeal Prune and trim vegetation to encourage healthy growth and a well-maintained appearance Water lawns and plants as needed Remove trash, debris, and litter from all exterior areas Maintain and monitor the condition of outdoor tools and equipment such as lawnmowers and snow removal gear Prepare and maintain seasonal outdoor spaces Physical Requirements Able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, lifting, and reaching on a regular basis Operate and maintain outdoor equipment, including lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and snowplows Work in various weather conditions to complete groundskeeping responsibilities Sustain physical stamina to carry out maintenance and groundskeeping duties throughout the day
Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Proven experience in maintenance and groundskeeping, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health setting Working knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and general repairs Experience in landscaping and outdoor equipment use Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and outdoor machinery Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with staff, clients, and vendors Ability to follow safety procedures and comply with regulations Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or be on-call as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification or training in HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, or related trades Groundskeeping or landscaping certification or training Experience working in a healthcare or behavioral health facility Familiarity with infection control protocols and facility standards
