Job Description This position involves manual labor of a routine nature in maintenance, repair, and construction of park grounds and improvements. Typical Duties Plants, cuts and trims grass, trees and bushes, using hand and power equipment. Plants and prunes shrubs and trees to shape in improve growth. Applies fertilizers and insecticide according to instructions to lawns, shrubs and trees. Maintains parks (by mowing, weed cutting, picking up trash, dumping barrels) and improvements in an attractive, clean and sanitary condition. Operates both manual and automatic irrigation systems. Assists with minor repairs of park equipment, machinery equipment and improvements. Paints fences, out buildings, equipment and other park improvements such as the swimming pools. Operates tractors and other large equipment equipped with attachments such as mowers, fertilizers, spreaders and loaders. Assists with the construction of new park improvements such as sprinkler systems, picnic facilities and playground equipment. On a rotating basis, clean the city's public restrooms On a rotating basis, hand water trees and manual sprinklers in the city parks. Move and replace bleachers as needed. On a rotating basis help maintain the pool. May be required to attend seminars and classes to improve job skills. Attend safety classes as specified. Other duties as deemed necessary by the Park Superintendent or Assistant Park Superintendent.
Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year experience in the operation and maintenance of light equipment. Experience which demonstrates knowledge of landscape, construction and maintenance is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates:
Equivalent of higher of a New Mexico Class "D" driver's license.(CDL preferred)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Basic gasoline and diesel engines Basic electrical and plumbing.
Skills in:
Safe operation of small equipment: hand and power tools and lawn care equipment.
Ability to:
Perform functions with minimal supervision: Understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations. Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with others.
Physical Requirements:
Moderately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions including working at night in the dark. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment.
