MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program•; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.. Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.
OPERATING NEEDS
Ability to perform semi-skilled level work, assisting with basic inspection and routine maintenance of mechanical systems large and small, internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, components of larger comprehensive systems including emergency equipment for the protection of vital building infrastructure (generators, fire protective components and overhead doors). Assist supervisor in determining replacement parts and ordering via the AiM work order system. Under supervision, Ability to perform basic inspection and routine maintenance of onboard computers for campus equipment; ability to assist supervisor in the diagnostic, testing and repairs of utility vehicles equipped with computer circuit boards, fuel injectors and advanced hydraulics; ability to assist supervisor in troubleshooting electrical systems, fuel injection systems, and hydraulics; ability to assist supervisor in mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs for a variety of equipment including utility vehicles, loaders, trucks, snowplows, salters, electric cars, shop equipment, generators, pumps, and other small engine items. Under supervision, assist in the Repair of blown hydraulic hoses, defective pumps, valves, leaking rams and hydraulic tanks. Ability to use pressure gauges both mechanical and electronic to take readings and relay results to the supervisor. Ability to perform basic metal work (cut, drill, repair cracked and broken metal parts or assist trades generalists as needed; repair floorboards, Ability and willingness to attend training on new equipment and, work overtime if needed and to be on an emergency call-in list for afterhours emergencies.
