Full Job Description Position Summary:

The Maintenance Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of all Conservancy-owned and/or assigned equipment and vehicles. This position is part of the Fleet, Buildings & Infrastructure Department and reports directly to the Director of Operations. This is a full-time seasonal position; working 37.5 hours per week with non-exempt status according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime hours may be required at certain times, with supervisor approval.

Benefits:

This position is a Class 3A according to the Conservancy's employee handbook and as such benefits include the following: Class 3A - The Conservancy offers medical plans with a $400 employer provided allocation toward monthly premiums, upon meeting certain criteria. A 403(b)-retirement plan and paid sick time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain and repair, as needed, all Conservancy owned/assigned equipment and vehicles; including but not limited to vehicles, mowers, weedwhackers, golf carts, etc.; Ensure the area used for maintaining the equipment as well as the supplies, parts and tool inventory area is kept in an organized manner; Assist in keeping an ongoing record of all repairs and maintenance for each piece of equipment and vehicle; Will be required to travel to all parks for repair and/or pick up of equipment as needed; Deliver fuel to golf courses and park districts; Attends Conservancy staff and safety meetings.

Qualifications and Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities): City of Buffalo residency within six-(6) months of hire date; A minimum of 1 year of experience in equivalent job duties and/or educational certifications/training; A Commercial Drivers License is a plus; Willingness to learn new skills; Leads by example and adheres to code of ethics for confidentiality, discretion, and policies; Transport equipment on a 30 ft trailer throughout park system; Resourcefulness in utilizing time, equipment and/or supplies approved within the annual budget to the greatest benefit of the Conservancy; Ability to work effectively and respectfully with other employees; Professionalism in communication, demeanor and respectful relationship building at the highest level in representing the Conservancy and fostering collaborative partnerships.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

A combination of both indoor and outdoor work environments; Outdoor work may be performed in extreme weather conditions; A combination of independent and team collaboration; Job duties may require an employee to bend, reach, stoop, sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time, as well as lift and/or move heavy objects which at times could be up to 50+lbs.; Required to drive distances between park locations and to operate standard to heavy park equipment and vehicles; Weekend and holiday work may be required; Flexible hours depending on workload and ever-changing priorities; Must be able to adapt to ever-changing resources and limited budgets.
