Camp Blue Bay located on Long Island in East Hampton, New York, has been owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) as a summer camp since 1947. With its spacious 179 acres, beautiful beachfront on Gardiner's Bay and scenic trails, Camp Blue Bay offers campers a variety of experiences.
Summary of Position:
Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at our resident camp. This role supports daily sanitation, facility upkeep, and campsite maintenance across the camp property.
Schedule:
During summer camp season (6 weeks, July to mid-August), working schedule is 4 hours per day, 5 days a week, including Saturdays & Sundays. Schedule may vary during off seasons, but is usually Monday-Friday, up to 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Perform general cleaning tasks such as dusting, window washing and surface cleaning in camp buildings and structures
- Clean and sanitize all surfaces of bathrooms /showers
- Maintain floors in all areas including sweeping, mopping, and using commercial floor care equipment for cleaning, stripping and polishing
- Remove garbage from camp buildings and outdoor areas
- Set up designated units and buildings so they are ready for weekend use (e.g., ensure supplies are stocked, buildings/units are open, etc.)
- Monitor the condition of facilities and replace worn or damaged items (e.g., shower curtains) as needed
- Pick up debris and maintain cleanliness of campsites and outdoor spaces
- Monitor cleaning supply inventory and notify supervisor when restocking is needed
- Promptly inform supervisor of repair needs or any irregularities observed
- During summer camp season, primary focus will be on keeping wash houses & other bathrooms on camp clean, and removal of trash
- Assist with general facility and grounds upkeep as needed or as assigned Requirements & qualifications:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a camp environment.
- Comfortable operating small utility vehicles (golf cart).
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Must be reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Minimum 1-2 years related experience
- Knowledge and understanding of Girl Scouting a plus.
