Full-Time Position Summary The Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for residents, staff, and visitors at the Family Shelter. This position performs general maintenance, repairs, inspections, and upkeep of the facility and grounds while ensuring all work is completed in accordance with safety standards and shelter policies. The Maintenance Worker plays an important role in supporting a welcoming and secure environment for families in need. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform general building maintenance and repairs including plumbing, painting, carpentry, drywall, and minor electrical work. Complete routine inspections of the shelter facility and grounds to identify maintenance or safety concerns. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and residents. Ensure common areas, offices, bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor spaces remain safe and in good condition. Conduct preventative maintenance on shelter equipment and systems. Assist with room turnovers, furniture assembly, and moving equipment or supplies as needed. Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisor when supplies need to be reordered. Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors when necessary. Remove trash, debris, snow, and ice from property areas as assigned. Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, fire safety regulations, and agency policies. Document completed work orders and report larger repair issues to management. Assist during emergency situations, including facility-related incidents and weather emergencies. Maintain professional and respectful interactions with residents, staff, and visitors. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous maintenance, custodial, or facilities experience preferred. Knowledge of general repair techniques, building systems, and maintenance tools. Ability to safely operate hand and power tools. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods. Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Experience working in a human services or shelter environment is a plus. Work Environment This position requires both indoor and outdoor work in a shelter setting. The Maintenance Worker may occasionally be exposed to varying weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, and physically demanding tasks.
