Job Description

The Maintenance Assistant is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the maintenance, repair, and appearance of the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). This position performs routine maintenance tasks, preventative maintenance, grounds upkeep, and general labor under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Team Lead. The Maintenance Assistant helps ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, visitors, and employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with routine building maintenance and minor repairs. Complete work orders in a timely and professional manner. Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, air filters, and batteries. Perform basic painting, patching, and touch-up work. Assemble furniture and install basic fixtures. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and resident belongings. Help maintain facility grounds by trimming, weeding, leaf removal, and snow removal. Remove trash and debris from the property. Assist with room turnovers and preparation for new residents. Perform minor plumbing repairs such as replacing faucets, unclogging drains, and repairing toilets under supervision. Perform basic electrical tasks such as replacing switches, outlets, and light fixtures if qualified and authorized. Assist with HVAC filter changes and routine inspections. Clean and organize maintenance shop, storage rooms, and mechanical areas. Assist with emergency response activities including power outages, flooding, severe weather, and fire drills. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous maintenance experience preferred but not required. Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools. Ability to learn plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC basics. Valid driver's license preferred. Ability to pass required background checks. Physical Requirements Frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance. Walk and stand for extended periods. Bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to operate lawn equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
