Pavement Markings & Signs Operator

The City of Tulsa is looking to hire candidates for their pavement markings & signs operator crew. Will be performing semiskilled and skilled operation of sign installation, painting and pavement marking equipment, and other related assigned duties.

Essential Tasks:

Installs signs, thermoplastic, and raised pavement markings and sand-barrel attenuators Performs maintenance on signs, thermoplastic, and raised pavement markings Assists with operation of the paint truck for the installation of new and replacement pavement markings. Operates a variety of sign installation, pavement marking, and guardrail attenuator (sand barrel) installation equipment and heavy equipment Performs routine maintenance on equipment Assists with installation of various overhead mast arm signs using the lift truck or bucket truck, including installation of large street marker signs 20-30 feet in the air Removes debris, limbs and other obstructions to the visibility of signs and pavement markings Assists in fabrication of traffic control signs, as directed Must report to work on a regular and timely basis

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:

some knowledge of the characteristics and uses of a variety of paints, primers, thinners, and cleaners; some knowledge of paint spraying methods and equipment utilized in street striping and pavement markings; some knowledge of sign installation equipment; some knowledge of the common practices, methods, tools and materials used in semiskilled maintenance and construction work. Ability to read and understand simplified construction schematics; ability to read work orders and perform tasks with guidance from supervisors; ability to enter information on work reports materials; ability to understand and effectively carry out written and verbal instructions; ability to operate and maintain trucks, small tractors, and other power equipment; and the ability to courteously and tactfully communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, other members of the organization, and the public in giving and receiving information.

Physical Requirements :

Physical requirements include walking and standing; frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 80 pounds; frequent reaching, balancing, bending, handling, climbing, smelling and twisting; occasional kneeling, crawling and feeling; constant use of visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision; occasional use of visual accommodation; and speech and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks. Must have experience with both power & hand tools Must be able to work with a team and problem solve Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions MUST have at least 4 years experience in general maintenance work Must be familiar with City of Tulsa streets/addresses/geographic lay out and understand directions around town

Schedule :

Monday-Friday 7am-330pm

Requirements :

Background check, pre-employment drug screen, driver's license (CDL-B a plus), HS diploma/GED, 4 years general maintenance experience, lace up steel toe boots
