Skilled Maintenance Worker (Public Works Department) Keep Our Community Running Strong—Join Our Public Works Team! West Whiteland Township is seeking a skilled, dependable, and motivated Skilled Maintenance Worker to support our Public Works Department. This full-time role is essential to maintaining the Township's roads, parks, facilities, sewer systems, and public infrastructure that serve over 19,000 residents and a growing daytime population. About West Whiteland Township Located in Chester County approximately 30 miles west of Philadelphia, West Whiteland Township is a vibrant and growing community centered around the Exton Crossroads (Routes 30 & 100). The Township manages extensive infrastructure, including: 69 miles of roadways 100+ miles of sanitary sewer lines and pump stations 10 Township parks and facilities Stormwater systems and public spaces Position Overview This hands-on position involves a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction, and repair tasks across: Roads and right-of-ways Parks and recreational facilities Stormwater and sanitary sewer systems Township buildings and infrastructure This role requires both independent initiative and teamwork in a fast-paced, outdoor environment. Night, weekend, and emergency response work is required. Key Responsibilities Maintain and repair roadways (paving, patching, crack sealing) Perform snow and ice removal (plowing, salting, de-icing) Maintain parks, trails, and Township grounds (mowing, landscaping, field prep) Repair and maintain park amenities (playgrounds, pavilions, signage, fencing) Perform basic building maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry) Operate heavy equipment (dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, plows, spreaders) Maintain stormwater systems, drainage, and sewer infrastructure Inspect facilities and identify safety hazards Perform equipment maintenance and repairs Assist with traffic control, signage, and work zone safety Support community events and Township programs Respond to emergencies (storms, flooding, debris removal) Maintain records of work performed and equipment usage Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License required CDL (Class A preferred; Class B minimum) with Tanker Endorsement within 6-12 months of hire Experience in construction, maintenance, landscaping, or trades Ability to operate Public Works equipment and tools Knowledge of roadways, utility, and municipal operations preferred Experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or mechanical work is a plus Ability to follow safety procedures and work in all weather conditions Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills Work Environment Primarily outdoor work in all weather conditions Physically demanding tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing, kneeling) Exposure to traffic, machinery, noise, and maintenance materials Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary (based on qualifications and experience) Comprehensive benefits package, including: Health, dental, and vision insurance Pension plan Paid time off How to Apply All applicants must submit: Online application Resume Cover letter Applications must be completed through the Township's online system.
