Maintenance Opportunities The Reading Housing Authority is expanding our Facilities Department team. We are currently seeking qualified individuals to perform detailed repairs and maintenance work necessary for the upkeep of our buildings and structures. These are non-supervisory, union positions that report directly to a Foreman. If you enjoy working both independently and on a team, performing a variety of maintenance and custodial type work, and contributing to a safe environment for yourself and others, we want to hear from you! Working Hours & Schedule •
Routine Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. • On Call is required Key Responsibilities (Scope of Work) Depending on your experience level and the position you are hired to perform, your daily tasks will involve a variety of maintenance and trade disciplines: •
Replace wooden or tiled floors, hang doors, replace screens, repair window frames, and repair masonry walls. •
Plaster & Roofing:
Make plaster repairs, as well as roofing and flashing repairs. •
Painting & Glazing:
Paint the interior and exterior of all structures and remove/glaze windows. •
Plumbing & Piping:
Cut and thread pipes, replace piping, replace fans, and maintain heating convectors. •
Appliances & Electrical:
Replace fuses, test circuits, and repair stoves and refrigerators. •
Advanced Equipment:
Inspect, disassemble, and repair large mechanical equipment and make minor repairs to boilers. •
Fixtures & Grounds:
Install toilet, lavatory, and kitchen fixtures, correct underground leaks, and operate a power rooter. Perform yard maintenance and grounds keeping. •
Safety Equipment:
Replace broken or damaged firefighting equipment. •
Equipment Operation:
Safely operate power maintenance equipment and small gas-powered lawn, garden, and snow removal equipment. •
Community Care:
Maintain a professional and supportive atmosphere for residents and staff. Remove trash, clean and polish floors. Qualifications & Requirements We welcome applicants looking to build their skills, as well as seasoned tradespeople. The requirements below outline the full scope of our department: •
Technical Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of Elevator Controls, Fire Panels, and Security Systems. •
Computer Skills:
Competency in computer programs (including Microsoft Office) and the ability to learn agency operating software. Ability to enter data into a computer or tablet. •
Communication:
Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Ability to effectively communicate, follow instructions, and give clear oral and written instructions. Bilingual in Spanish is appreciated but not required. •
Work Style:
Must be a self-starter and team player who can prioritize, organize, and perform work independently with limited supervision. Must follow organizational policies and procedures. •
Physical Demands:
Ability to exert physical effort, including walking, standing, bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. Must possess dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, and body. •
Mobility:
Ability to walk large campuses and climb stairs/ladders to inspect roofs, boiler rooms, meter pits, and building conditions. •
Environmental Tolerance:
Ability to tolerate various weather conditions, including extended periods outdoors during emergency conditions. •
Driver's License:
Requires a valid PA Driver's License. •
Residency & On-Call:
Must reside within 20 miles of the City of Reading for on-call purposes. •
Connectivity:
Ability to connect to the cellphone carrier or a home Wi-Fi network if cell service is inadequate. •
Reliability:
An excellent attendance record is required.
