Job Description

Class A and Maintenance Township Road Department Upper Bern Township Job Summary Join our Township Road Department as a Class A and Maintenance Technician, where you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving our local infrastructure. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of road, facility, and equipment projects, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for the community. You will be responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repairs, and operational tasks that keep our roads, facilities, and equipment in top condition. Responsibilities Operate heavy machinery and equipment including trucks, loaders, and maintenance tools to repair roads, signage, and drainage systems. Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on roadways, bridges, and related infrastructure to ensure safety standards are met. Conduct electrical work using schematics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and electrical testing tools such as ohmmeters to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems. Weld metal components for repairs or fabrication projects using appropriate welding techniques. Maintain facilities by performing tasks such as residential painting, plumbing repairs, HVAC servicing, and general upkeep of departmental buildings. Supervise maintenance crews or contractors during projects while ensuring safety protocols and quality standards are followed. Read schematics and mechanical drawings to diagnose issues with equipment or infrastructure components effectively. Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly to community requests or concerns related to road conditions or facilities. Must be able to work on call as needed. Requirements Valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record. Proven experience in facilities maintenance, manufacturing, or public works operations. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret schematics and mechanical drawings. Electrical experience including troubleshooting with PLCs and using testing tools like ohmmeters. Skilled in welding techniques suitable for repair and fabrication tasks. Knowledge of residential painting techniques and general facilities upkeep practices. Supervising experience leading teams or contractors on maintenance projects. Excellent communication skills in English for clear documentation and team coordination.
