Maintenance Worker Sumter County is Currently Seeking a Maintenance Worker for Public Buildings
Salary:
$25,000 Position Summary Sumter County Government is seeking a reliable and motivated Building Maintenance Worker to support the cleanliness, safety, and daily operation of County-owned facilities. This position performs a variety of custodial and facility support duties to help ensure public buildings remain clean, functional, and welcoming for employees and visitors. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while maintaining high standards of service and professionalism. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine custodial services including cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal in County facilities. Maintain and care for floors, carpets, restrooms, offices, meeting rooms, and common areas. Assist with basic building maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs and reporting repair needs or safety concerns. Help maintain exterior building areas by removing litter and keeping entrances and walkways clean and presentable. Set up and break down rooms for meetings, training sessions, events, and other County functions. Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed to support departmental operations. Operate custodial equipment and tools safely and properly. Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and maintain organized storage areas. Lock and unlock County facilities as assigned. Interact professionally with County employees, visitors, contractors, and the public. Assist with other facility maintenance and support duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous custodial, janitorial, building maintenance, or related experience preferred. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks effectively. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and the public. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. Knowledge of workplace safety practices and the proper use of cleaning products. Ability to operate floor buffers, vacuums, carpet cleaning equipment, and hand tools safely. Ability to identify facility maintenance concerns and communicate them appropriately. Ability to prioritize work assignments and complete tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions. Ability to safely operate custodial and maintenance equipment. Work Environment Work is performed in County-owned facilities and surrounding grounds. Duties may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, varying temperatures, and other conditions commonly associated with custodial and facility maintenance work.
