Streets Equipment Operator

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and reliable Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience operating various types of heavy machinery. This position operates heavy equipment and participates in the repair and maintenance of city streets and related infrastructure. Duties Operates a variety of equipment, including motor grader, excavator, street sweeper, backhoe, etc. to maintain, repair, and clean streets, trim trees, remove snow, and complete other assigned projects. Performs day-to-day tasks as assigned, including street sweeping, snow removal, concrete and asphalt repair, storm drain maintenance, fence repair and installation, curb painting and striping maintenance, traffic sign and signal maintenance, trash and debris removal, emergency storm work, mowing right-of-way (ROW), special events operations, and on-call duties. Responds to and provides field support for such matters as flooding, washouts, commercial and residential construction, winter storms, power outages, hazardous materials, accidents, and contamination of air, water, plant life, or soil. Collaborate with team members to coordinate tasks and ensure project timelines are met. Follow safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment. Installs traffic control devices at work sites in compliance with MUTCD guidelines; completes flagging activities to control the flow of traffic. Provides support for the set-up and tear-down of special events. Skills Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance. Knowledge of hard surface repairs and maintenance. Knowledge of snow removal and ice control principles and practices. Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations. Knowledge of MUTCD guidelines; including sign installation principles. Skill in the operation of required machinery, tools, assigned vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment. Skill in the maintenance of assigned construction equipment. Skill in the handling of hazardous materials, including insecticides, cleaning chemicals, and the like. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the proficient and safe operation of equipment and the use of hand and power tools. Skill in oral and written communication.
