Varies SUMMARY:
Responsible for operating equipment used in grounds maintenance and construction. Equipment includes light front deck mower, weed eater, blower, edger, chain saw, backhoe, etc. Ensures equipment is properly maintained and repaired. May occasionally operate heavy equipment. Work is performed with limited supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates a variety of general, small, and simple equipment in the performance of landscape, parks and athletic field maintenance activities, which may include: front deck mower, weed eater, blower, edger, chain saw, backhoe, mulchers, trenchers, saws, pipe cutters, sand pro, tractors and/or other related equipment. Performs routine preventative maintenance to applicable equipment, which may include: greasing parts, blowing out filters, checking and replacing oil, checking tire pressure, cleaning and changing spark plugs, washing and cleaning equipment, and/or performing other related activities. Participates in routine grounds maintenance activities, which may include: trimming trees; mowing grass areas; weed eating around poles, guard rails, trees, and other applicable items; picking up and disposing of trash in public areas; planting, removing, trimming, watering, and pruning trees; making minor repairs to irrigation systems; and/or, performing other related activities. Participates in routine facility maintenance activities, which may include: repairing minor plumbing problems; painting facilities; cleaning and sanitizing restroom facilities; and/or, performing other related activities. Transports equipment and/or materials to designated job site(s). Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; Knowledge of safe driving practices; Skilled in caring for and operating motor vehicles and applicable equipment; Skilled in performing manual labor; Skilled in performing routine grounds maintenance activities; Skilled in communicating effectively with a variety of individuals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Eighth grade education. One year related experience. Must have a valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and manual dexterity. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions. Work is performed near moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles.

Must pass pre-employment drug test. Must pass criminal history check. Must pass motor vehicle records check.
