BRIEF DESCRIPTION
This is a non-supervisory position. Primary responsibilities are to efficiently and effectively conduct maintenance operations in parks and recreation facilities, City properties and other areas of Parks and Recreation maintenance responsibility. Duties will include (but are not limited to) operating machinery, trash removal, minor repairs, routine maintenance and assisting other staff. This is a temporary position ranging from 3-6 months with no minimum number of hours guaranteed; no leave or retirement benefits will be offered.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to work alone at night and/or weekends maintaining and policing all activities at City facilities Ability to perform mowing operations with wide area, zero turn rotary, or reel type mowing equipment Ability to complete mechanical or manual edging practices on baseball infield and sidewalk areas Ability to mechanically or manually distribute infield materials on baseball infields Safety practices and principles related to the use of hand and power tools and water line maintenance Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of equipment including safety standards to prevent hazards Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of motor vehicles including provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code Sufficient skills to service and make minor repairs on equipment Sufficient knowledge of technical skills related to the work of maintenance Sufficient knowledge of plant care
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent preferred; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED A
Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS
Primarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Various mowing equipment, tree trimming tools, chainsaw, string trimmer, shovel, pruning shears, wheelbarrow, tamper, post driver, air tools, agricultural-type tractor, a gator-type four-wheel vehicle, and various other tools needed to complete daily tasks.
