Job Description

Performs a variety of technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of grounds, open spaces, parks, and recreation systems and swimming pools. Examples of Duties The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Assists in the training and/or supervision of Parks Maintenance Worker I & II employees in absence of Parks Superintendent. Serves as lead worker maintaining park and open space areas; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets; maintains sprinkler systems, playgrounds, and park fountains. Oversees the maintenance of the municipal swimming pool. Assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler systems. Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Oversees tree maintenance and removal, and stump removal. Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of parks and open spaces. Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems. Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions. Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, prepares facilities for park and recreation program use. Assists in the construction of new parks facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work. Assists in setting up and taking down of holiday seasonal lighting and decoration in various parks and Town facilities.
Qualifications:
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in grounds maintenance and working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs. Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Comprehensive understanding of landscape technology procedures. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; Four (4) years experience in parks and maintenance work; and Texas Commercial Drivers License or ability to obtain one. Preferred Certification Landscape related certification or license (Certified Pool Operator, Licensed Pesticide Applicator, Irrigation License, Certified Arborist) Supplemental Information
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Pickup truck; back hoe, front end loader, aerial bucket truck, lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, aerifier, chain saw, stump grinders, hydro mulcher, edger's, weed trimmers, jack hammers, welders, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting, and cement finishing work; swimming pool equipment including chlorination system, pumps, valves, filtration devices and gauges, and other listed equipment as needed.
