PRIMARY PURPOSE
Helps maintain the grounds of all facilities of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District in a condition of safety, neatness, and aesthetic attractiveness, so that each student may be provided with an outdoor environment both pleasing to view and within which to play. Utilize a systems approach to continuous improvement in all aspects of work to provide excellent customer service while striving to achieve the Maintenance Department goal of supporting student achievement by providing a safe, clean and functional environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License insurable by the School District's insurance carrier Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Mechanical aptitude
Minimum Experience:
  • One year of experience in grounds maintenance
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Trims trees and brush of School District facilities and hauls away the debris
  • Assists the Crew Leader and Grounds Operator in construction and repair projects
  • Assists in moving equipment and furniture
  • Keeps dumpster enclosures clean and free of trash
  • Keeps drains clear of debris
  • Assists in installing storm drains
  • Grooming of synthetic fields
  • Assists in mowing lawns, fields, and grassy areas of School District facilities, removes weeds
  • Drives School District vehicle to work sites, transport materials, and perform required labor
  • Attends required staff development as assigned by Administration and/or Supervisor
  • Loads and unloads materials needed for the grounds maintenance projects from vehicles
  • Assumes responsibility for personal daily time card
  • Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible
  • Follows all rules, regulations, and policies of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District
  • Performs other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or Supervisor
  • Represents Maintenance and Operations Department to internal and external customers through a high level of customer service
  • Willingness to work outside of normal assigned hours, as needed
  • Utilizes a systems approach to continuous improvement in all aspects of work to provide excellent customer service
  • Performs other functions that may be assigned by Supervisor
EQUIPMENT USED
Lawn equipment, including (but not limited to) push mowers, riding mowers, hand-held weed eaters, blowers, hand tools, power tools, power equipment, tractors, and School District vehicle
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands:
  • Reading, ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Frequent lifting and carrying, 15-50 pounds
  • Frequent twisting, reaching above shoulder, bending, climbing, and kneeling
  • Manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion
  • Works outside under conditions of inclement weather; exposure to sun
  • Excessive noise
  • Intermittent fumes, smoke or gases; grease and oils
  • Electrical energy
  • Works near machinery with moving parts and motorized vehicles
Pay:
$18.13 - $27.45 per hour
