Street Maintenance Crewmember

The incumbent provides services related to streets and drainage maintenance work for the City. Employees in this class exercise appropriate safety precautions in operating assigned equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety. Position is responsible for periodically working independently or as part of a work crew. Performs related maintenance duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines, drive vehicles and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (80) eighty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Outdoor environment; exposure to conditions of construction and Public Works project sites including loud noises, dust, heavy vehicles and equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to traffic and other hazards while conducting field inspections; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1.

Performs streets maintenance and repair work in asphalt, concrete, and road-base mediums. 2. Prepares for pouring concrete and laying asphalt, to include mixing by hand where applicable. 3. Prepares for work orders through loading tools and materials; cleans such after use. 4. Participates in traffic control activities. 5. Prepares assigned equipment for safe and efficient operating condition by inspecting prior to and after use. 6. Monitors vehicle fluid levels and refuels as needed; performs minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment, i.e., lubricating, cleaning. 7. Performs installation, maintenance and repair tasks on various structures, i.e., sidewalks, driveways, street signs, drainage. 8. Utilizes various manual, gas, and hand held tools and equipment in maintenance and repair tasks, i.e., shovels, rakes, brooms, chain saws, hammers, wrenches. 9. Utilizes various vehicles and equipment in maintenance and repair tasks as needed, i.e., service trucks, front end loaders, compactors, and jack hammers. 10. Cleans/clears debris and refuse from work areas; installs grass or sod where applicable 11. Incumbent will be required to be on-call during certain periods and respond to work orders and requests after hours and on weekends.

OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS

Class B CDL or, class A optimal. (pay rate may be higher with this skill) No prior experience required, entry level applicants are encouraged to apply Bilingual a plus, not required.
