Monday through Friday 6:30 am - 3:00pm. Weekends and Holidays off. Might be required to work all hours and Shifts.
PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) Maintenance Division is to effectively deliver self-performed, and contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the Equipment Worker in the Maintenance section of the Houston Airport System is to support the goal of "Opening Day Fresh" by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective, efficient, and proactive maintenance. The Maintenance business unit ensures the airport maintains its annual operating certificate by performing key maintenance functions as mandated by Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139. "Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date." The Equipment Worker responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Operates heavy equipment and operates trucks to transport equipment, refuse and/or materials to and from work sites. Performs a variety of manual tasks and activities, i.e., spraying, lawn care, moving furniture, roofing, painting, digging manholes, mowing, pouring concrete or asphalt, etc. Operate cement mixers to mix cement, aggregate, water, and additives. Smoothing and finishing poured concrete surfaces. Maintains, cleans and services equipment, vehicles, tools and facilities. Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials and equipment. Observes and follows safety procedures and precautions at worksite. May investigate and respond to complaints. Prepares and maintains reports, forms and records. May act as a lead of a crew and coordinate and monitor work assignments and personnel. All types of Plumbing repairs. Airfield Painting, Access Gate maintenance and repair. Sign Shop, Key Shop and Locksmith work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make fairly complex coordinated and sequenced motor movements in response to quickly changing external stimuli.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May be required to have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving based on the type of equipment the individual is assigned to operate. Preferences will be given to applicant with the availability to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays preferred. Experience in pavement repairs. Experience with implementing Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 a plus. Strong communication, able to deal with people in tense situations and works with minimum supervision is a plus. Possesses the ability to solve arithmetic and numerical problems is preferred. Experience with Airfield painting and markings Commercial plumbing repair. •Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.•

The selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test.
