Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The City of La Vernia is accepting applications for the position of Parks Maintenance Worker. This position performs routine manual labor in the maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning of the City's parks, athletic fields, medians, and public grounds. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor. This is an entry-level position requiring the ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the work performed in this position. Other duties may be assigned as directed by the Parks Maintenance Supervisor. Operate mowers, weed eaters, and other grounds maintenance equipment as directed. Utilize hand and power tools in routine landscape maintenance and grounds keeping tasks. Trim trees; prune shrubs; plant trees, flowers, and shrubs. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related park facilities. Clean restrooms and collect litter in parks, medians, and public areas on a regular basis. Water, mow, weed trim, renovate, and fertilize lawns and turf areas. Rake leaves and clean walks, courts, fields, and other public facilities. Assist in the maintenance and repair of the City's irrigation systems. Assist in the maintenance, construction, and repair of park and recreational facilities. Assist in the application of herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides under the direction of a licensed applicator; maintain required records of chemicals and fertilizers applied. Perform manual labor including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending, climbing, and twisting. Assist with routine inspection and upkeep of assigned equipment. Assist other sections of the department as directed. Maintain regular, punctual, and dependable attendance during all scheduled work hours. Demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity in all aspects of City employment.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check, reference verification, and pre-employment drug screening as required by the City of La Vernia Personnel Policy. Conviction of any Class B misdemeanor or higher offense will disqualify an applicant from consideration unless specifically approved by the City Administrator. Employees required to operate City vehicles must maintain a satisfactory driving record at all times.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, or currently enrolled and making satisfactory progress toward completion. Prior experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or outdoor manual labor is preferred but not required. The City will train a motivated candidate with no prior experience.Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Texas Class C Driver s License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the City s vehicle insurance policy. Applicants who do not currently hold a valid license must obtain one prior to the start of employment.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A bility to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors. Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor outdoors for extended periods in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Ability to safely operate basic grounds maintenance equipment including mowers and weed eaters. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring stooping, bending, and climbing.
