Parks Maintenance Assistant (Part-Time or Seasonal)

$34,985.18 - $42,856.85, annually •This is a seasonal/short term assignment. •The purpose of this position is to provide park maintenance and support to the Parks & Recreation Department. Provides general ground maintenance including, but not limited to: mowing with a push mower, edger, and weed eater; trimming trees and shrubs; digging; cleaning and maintaining equipment; and providing litter and waste control. Assists with various landscaping duties as directed including, but not limited to: laying natural material; laying sod; planting and watering; and pulling weeds. Organizes and maintains necessary equipment and supplies for daily assignments. Performs general labor which may require operating various small power tools and lifting. Cleans and maintains restroom facilities. Performs all other duties as assigned. High school diploma or GED equivalent, is preferred. This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion. Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to understand and correctly follow instructions, rules, operations, safety practices, procedures, and perform work accurately and thoroughly. Ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a professional and congenial manner. Ability to perform strenuous and routine work which requires consistent physical labor. Basic ability to communicate and recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words. Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses. Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. Knowledge of ground maintenance equipment and techniques. Skilled in operating both light and medium equipment. Skilled in the use of small hand tools and power tools. Good knowledge of general ground maintenance techniques. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all people. Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly. Special Requirements Mobility within a field and outdoor environment is required. Must be able to work flexible hours, and holidays and weekends as needed. This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment. Work Environment Work involves continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to extreme and inclement weather conditions, disagreeable elements, and noise. Working environment includes the potential of exposure to dust, chemicals, and mechanical hazards. Occasional exposure to moving traffic, fumes, irritants, rodents, and insects. Physical demands include frequent lifting, carrying, and loading/unloading of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back, or sensory faculties. Climbs, kneels, squats, stoops, bends, or walks in confined spaces. May be subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and operating equipment.
